Sahara, Golden Gate and Union Plaza Chip Story
Soon after the release of the MGM chip, these three Las Vegas casinos also issued $5 chips all using the "patriotic" red, white and blue colors of the flag and the colors used by all of the Bicentennial chips. All three bore the "dual-dates" 1776-1976 around a personal symbol of the issuing casino. The Sahara and Golden Gate chips were general issues and the Union Plaza chip was used originally on their baccarat table only. Later, the Union Plaza chip was used throughout the casino and may have been the last bicentennial chip in use in Nevada.
